Approved

Has there ever been a more welcome word to hear when going through a house building process? No, I don’t think so either.

It was with overwhelming relief that I received word from the certification company that my development application had been approved. I have permission to move the house onto my land, and to do the renovations and extensions to make a liveable dwelling. I’m so happy!

It’s taken the best part of the year to reach this stage. I was hoping to have the approvals in place before everything shut down for the year, and that’s how it has evolved. The only caveats are the usual ones with any relocation. ie it needs to be completed to a liveable dwelling standard that fits in with the neighbourhood aesthetic.

Which means that visually it needs to be painted, and with no rusting roof or generally looking in a state of disrepair. It’s not quite in a state of disrepair currently, but she does need a decent dose of love to bring her up to scratch.

Then the internal renovations need to be completed with a functioning bathroom, laundry and kitchen. The side and front extension and verandahs also need to be completed. And the rear decks.

Beyond the house, I need to develop a plan for retaining walls, carport driveway and arrange for the sewer system to be installed.

I’ve also just had notice that a water meter is now installed, so I have water to the boundary and can now get a plumber to install a tap to the power pole at front of block. I have both water and power now – so am making progress. Slowly, slowly.

So, there is lots to do! But phase one (the approval phase) is now complete and I can move into phase two (the relocation phase). Yay!
